Caption:
Ipswich motive power depot, Suffolk, 8 April 1953. An engine shed was built at Ipswich in the 1860s by the Great Eastern Railway, and was used for the storage, servicing, cleaning and repair of locomotives. By the mid-1950s the steam locomotives' days were numbered, and in the next decade they were gradually replaced by diesel and electric engines.
